MAHASHIVRATRI 2022: Isha Yoga Center is gearing up to host the biggest festival of the year – Mahashivratri. The nighttime festival starts on March 1 at 6pm and lasts until 6am the next morning, in the presence of Sadhguru. Isha Mahashivratri is live streamed online and broadcast on all major television networks in English, Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, Kannada, Marathi and several other regional languages.
Mahashivratri is one of the most important festivals of India and celebrates the mercy of Shiva, the Adi Guru from whom the yoga tradition originates. Planetary positions on this night are such that there is a powerful natural upsurge of energy in the human system. It is immensely beneficial to one’s physical and spiritual well-being to stay awake and aware and keep the spine vertical throughout the night.
Following the Covid-19 protocols, access to the event is limited and only through registrations. The entire event will be livestreamed in 16 languages, millions of devotees from around the world are expected to tune in via television as well. For those attending the festival at the yoga center, medical screening, social distancing, masks and disinfectants will also remain mandatory in addition to complying with all government guidelines for in-person gatherings.
Starting with the Pancha Bhuta Aradhana in Dhyanalinga, this nighttime celebration will see Linga Bhairavi Maha Yatra, Satsang with Sadhguru, midnight meditations and the spectacular Adiyogi Divya Darshanam. Other highlights of the Mahashivratri celebrations include a host of spectacular music and dance performances. Renowned artists from different parts of the country such as Papon, Master Saleem, Hansraj Raghuvanshi, Mangli and Sean Roldan will delight the audience with their unique and diverse music brands. Other attractions include music by Isha Foundation’s own band – Sounds of Isha, and dance performances by Isha Samskriti.
In 2021, the online viewership of the Mahashivratri event on March 11-12 was 50% more than the broadcast of the Grammy Awards, which aired on March 14. The celebrations at Isha Yoga Center were the only Indian live stream to reach the top 50 live streams in the world that week. The event was watched by people from 130 countries, making it the largest festival in the world in March 2021.

Mahashivratri celebrations online or in person will also have the opportunity to receive Rudraksha initiated by Sadhguru in a special process on the night of Mahashivratri.
The Rudraksha is a powerful tool to become accessible to the Grace of Adiyogi. More than 5 million specially consecrated Rudraksha beads are being prepared for free distribution all over India. Rudraksha is offered for free to anyone who makes a request by making a missed call on 83000 83000. Isha arranged for home delivery of the Rudraksha. The pack contains sacred vibhuti, a picture of Adiyogi and the Abhaya Sutra that dissolves fear and enables the wearer to achieve his goals.
Seven days of spiritual and cultural exuberance
This year Mahashivratri will be extra special as for the first time the nighttime festivities of March 1 will be followed by seven days of spiritual and cultural exuberance, ending on March 8. There will be many avenues for devotees to explore deeper dimensions of well-being through the free online offering of devotional Shiva chants, the simple yet effective Upa yoga and Yaksha – a three-day (2-4 March) music and dance festival that are streamed live on Isha’s YouTube channel.
Maha Annadanam, an offering of food to all visitors, is an integral part of the celebrations. Hundreds of volunteers will be involved in cooking and distributing food to thousands of visitors on Mahashivratri night and every day of the following seven days.

Angaraag Mahanta, popularly known by his stage name Papon, is a playback singer and composer from Assam. He is also the lead singer and founder of the folk fusion band Papon and The East India Company. - Master Saleem
Known for his work as a devotional singer and playback singer in Bollywood films, Master Saleem has also released private albums of Punjabi and Sufi music. - Hansraj Raghuvanshi
Most of Hansraj’s songs are dedicated to Shiva. His song ‘Damru Wale Baba’ brought him great fame after it went viral on social media. - mangosteen
Satyavathi Rathod popularly known as Mangli is a playback singer, television host and actress from Andhra Pradesh. This is her second stay with Isha Mahashivratri, after she captivated everyone with her soulful voice last year. - Sean Roldan
Raghavendra Raja Rao – better known as Sean Roldan – specializes in Carnatic music and songs for the Tamil film industry. He started working on Carnatic songs as a music composer but later delved into independent Tamil music with his band “Sean Roldan and Friends”.
