Already booked a play-off berth, Kerala Blasters played a thrilling 4-4 draw against FC Goa — which has been disregarded — in an Indian Super League game at Bambolim on Sunday. Hat-trick hero Airam Cabrera (49th, 63rd, 82nd) and Aibanbha Dohling (79th) both came off the bench to score for FC Goa. Previously, Jorge Pereyra Diaz (10th, 25th) had impressed in the first half with a brace. Vincy Barreto (88th) and Alvaro Vazquez (90th) made it late for the Blasters to take a point. The drawn result came less than 24 hours after Kerala qualified for the ISL semi-finals.
The Gaurs finished their campaign in ninth place with 19 points. Kerala finished fourth with 34 points and eagerly awaits their semi-final opponents, one between Jamshedpur FC and ATK Mohun Bagan.
Sahal Abdul Samad intercepted a ball, which was initially passed by the goalkeeper to Anwar Ali. A fine cross into the penalty area and Diaz pushed the ball into the net, breaking the deadlock.
Anwar was again blamed for the second goal and easily gave the ball away to Chencho who ran into the penalty area with only the keeper to beat. Tiwari tripped the Bhutanese forward and gave Kerala a penalty.
Diaz made no mistake from the spot and sent Tiwari the wrong way, netting his eighth goal of the season, second of the evening and fourth in the last three games.
The first half turned out to be a one-sided affair with FC Goa only having a quarter of the ball and not getting any shots on target. Derrick Pereira made three changes and the end change responded immediately.
A free kick by Edu Bedia was sent into space by Ivan Gonzalez and Cabrera, who had just come off the bench, led the ball to half the deficit.
After the hour, Givson conceded a penalty by knocking down Makan Winkle Chothe in the penalty area and Cabrera took it with joy to equalize the scores. Just minutes ago, Diaz had missed a golden opportunity to score a hat-trick on the other side.
Dohling scored a goal that gave Goa the lead for the first time of the night from a long ball from Anwar. The defender was unmarked, made his way into the penalty area and took a slant shot that rendered Prabhsukhan Gill helpless.
Devendra Murgaonkar provided the cut pass for Cabrera to launch his first ISL hat trick. Late in time, Barreto and Vazquez were sent in from the bench to score a goal each to even the scores before the final whistle.
