TMC leader Kalyan Banerjee came under sharp attack for calling Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia a “lady killer” during a heated exchange in Parliament. After the incident, the woman BJP MP met Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju and demanded action against the Bengal leader.
Earlier in the day, a heated argument in Parliament between BJP MP Jyotiraditya Scindia and TMC's Kalyan Banerjee during a discussion on the Disaster Management Bill led to chaos in the Lok Sabha and forced a 30-minute adjournment. Banerjee, however, apologized for the comment.
“Kalyan Banerjee has said sorry. We all come to this House with the spirit of contributing to the development of the country,” Scindia said, adding that there will, however, be no compromise on self-respect.
“If you get personal, be prepared for the reaction… I don't accept his apology,” he said.
Meanwhile, Andhra Pradesh BJP president Daggubati Purandeswari criticized Banerjee's repeated insulting comments on women parliamentarians. She said, “The repeated comments made by TMC's Kalyan Banerjee against women in Parliament – this is not the first time. He has responded and pointed out to Jyotiraditya Scindia that he is a…”
“Even earlier he had said that there are so many beautiful women in the House of Representatives, but my attention is not diverted. “I think this is very inappropriate for a parliamentarian who comes from a state led by a woman – Mamata Banerjee leads West Bengal – and it is very inappropriate for him to make such comments about women,” Purandeswari added.
How the scuffle started?
Trouble arose when Banerjee spoke during a discussion on the changes in the Disaster Management Act.
The All India Trinamool Congress member alleged that the central government was not cooperating during the COVID-19 pandemic, but Home Minister Nityanand Rai countered this and said it was Prime Minister Narendra Modi who helped all states and tackled the crisis successfully taken by everyone.
Rai also alleged that the West Bengal government was trying to create hurdles in the transportation of Covid vaccines across its territory.
Standing up in support of Rai, Scindia said India had emerged as a “Vishwa Bandhu” during the pandemic and helped all needy countries around the world.
Following this, Banerjee attacked Scindia and made certain comments against the minister, which were deleted by Chairman Om Birla.
