Insurance giant Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) said Thursday it will take legal action against unscrupulous entities that make unauthorized use of its logo on social media platforms to attract customers.
In its warning, LIC also asked the public not to fall prey to proposals from such entities that misuse its logo on social media platforms such as Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and YouTube and other social media.
“We’ve also noticed that certain unscrupulous service providers and agents have created websites and apps that attempt to offer various services, such as ‘insurance and insurance advisory services’ to customers using our trademarks/service marks that are deceptively similar to our sign. .
“and domain names that are deceptively similar to our domain name and even use and reproduce our original literary and artistic works with the intent to cause confusion and deceit in the minds of the public and policyholders that they are in any way associated with or by us authorized,” LIC said in a message.
It also said certain software and app providers have created software and apps that access or allow others to access LIC’s portal system by facilitating unauthorized access with the intent of data theft.
Such software and app providers have therefore prosecuted themselves.
“Under the circumstances, customers, members of the public and policyholders are requested to make any such unlawful and/or unauthorized and/or infringing use of our service marks on social media or in any other form… to enable us to take appropriate legal action , both civil and criminal, to curb such infringing activities,” it said.
The general public is cautioned that all information related to our products is available on our website and the Corporation is not responsible for any false or misleading information that may be available on such digital and social media platforms from such unscrupulous persons, it said.
