Mohammad Rizwan won the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) Most Valuable Cricketer of the Year award on Thursday after a stellar 2021 in which he scored 455 Test, 134 ODI and 1,326 T20I runs, alongside 56 batters behind the wickets in all formats. For PCB’s Most Valuable Cricket Player of the Year award, Rizwan beat the challenge of Babar Azam, Hasan Ali and Shaheen Shah Afridi who also had an impressive and outstanding year, which is reflected in Pakistan’s overall performance in 2021.
In addition to the Most Valuable Cricketer of the Year award, Rizwan was also unanimously voted the T20I Cricketer of the Year by PCB by an independent panel.
“I am humbled and honored to have been named Pakistan’s Most Valuable Cricketer of 2021. This is the PCB’s most prestigious award and it gives me immense satisfaction and recognition for my contributions to the team’s superlative across all formats in 2021. good luck,” Rizwan said in a PCB release.
“I thought I had an exceptional year in the shortest form of the game, when I was able to win a century against South Africa early in the year and keep that confidence and momentum for the rest of the year.
“I give great credit to our bowlers who threw their hearts out and didn’t put the pressure on the batters by putting constant pressure on the opponents all year round,” he added.
Pakistani captain Babar Azam of all sizes took home the PCB’s ODI Cricketer of the Year award for collecting 405 runs in six ODIs spanning two centuries and a half centuries.
Hasan Ali won PCB’s Test Cricketer of the Year for his 41 wickets in nine Tests including a 10-for and five, five-fors as well as two player of the match and one player of the series awards.
“Test cricket is the pinnacle format of the game and to be named Test Cricketer of the Year is a proud moment for me. Last year was a sort of comeback year for me after missing international cricket in 2020 due to injury ‘ said Hasan Ali.
“Not only was I able to successfully return to international cricket, but I also played my part in the overall success of the team in 2021,” he added.
Shaheen Shah Afridi’s three for 31 against India on October 24 in Dubai in the 2021 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup won him PCB’s Impactful Performance of the Year award.
“I am thrilled that my performance against our traditional rivals in a global event has been voted Impactful Performance of the Year,” said Shaheen.
“For the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, the team wanted an aggressive, fearless and convincing start to set the tone for the rest of the event and I am delighted to have been able to provide just that,” he added.

For the second year in a row, PCB’s elite match officials have named Asif Yaqoob the Referee of the Year.
Mohammad Wasim Junior won the Emerging Cricketer of the Year for his 45 wickets in 2021, including 15 wickets in his first year of international cricket, while Nida Dar was named as the Women’s Cricketer of the Year by PCB after racking up 604 runs and 25 had taken wickets.
