National Tourism Day 2022: India is a diverse country with a rich cultural and mythological heritage. From Kashmir to Kanyakumari, the country has breathtaking scenic sites to visit and mouthwatering dishes to try. Every tourist site contains the stories from history or mythology, which makes them even more special. In India, tourism is one of the highest income industries and plays an important role in the economy of the country.
National Day of Tourism: History
In 1958, the government realized the importance of tourism coming to India and created a separate department for tourism. The aim of the creation of the department was to preserve our national heritage and to take care of the tourist destinations in order to preserve their beauty and at the same time make them touristic.
India also attracts many foreign tourists every year. People from all over the world come and stay for months in ‘Incredible India’ to explore the scenic beauty. To keep the culture alive and promote tourism, we celebrate the National Day of Tourism on January 25th. Every year a different theme is given to the day. The day is important because it creates awareness about the importance of tourism and its economic aspects.
The tourism industry has been drastically affected by the COVID-19 pandemic over the past two years. The states heavily dependent on tourism such as Himachal Pradesh, Goa, Uttarakhand and the northeastern states suffered huge losses. In 2021, the theme of the National Day of Tourism was ‘Dekho Apna Desh’ and encouraged Indians to travel to India and discover its beauty. The celebrations were held virtually through seminars amid COVID-19 restrictions.
This year, the day is celebrated in Andhra Pradesh with the theme of ‘Azadi ka Amrut Mohatsav’. The Government of India launched the ‘Azadi ka Amrut Mohatsav’ campaign on the occasion of India’s 75th Independence Day. India has many historical sites that tell the story of sacrifice, bloodshed, patriotism and freedom. Let’s all hope this year the pandemic ends and we can safely visit these beautiful places to relive history.
