Congress leaders on Friday hit back at Prime Minister Narendra Modi for targeting the grand old party and its leader Mallikarjun Kharge over election promises, saying 'no one in the party can lie like Prime Minister Modi'.
In a series of tweets, Prime Minister Modi said that the Congress party is realizing the hard way that making unreal promises is easy but executing them properly is difficult or impossible.
Modi's comment came after Kharge's comments that the party's state units should make promises that are properly budgeted and do not lead to financial problems.
However, Congress soon dismissed the allegations, saying that the government of India is not doing what it promised. “They blame us for not delivering. But on our part, we are fulfilling our promises,” Congress general secretary KC Venugopal said.
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah also tagged Modi and said that before pointing fingers at the Congress, first look closely at the disastrous legacy of the BJP in Karnataka!
“We are delivering on every promise we made to our people – all five guarantees were implemented at budget overrun ₹52,000 crore, and one more ₹52,903 crore in capital expenditure to build the future of Karnataka. And the irony? While Karnataka contributes significantly to the Union exchequer, your government is robbing us of our rightful share to prevent us from implementing guarantee schemes.”
Siddaramaiah stated that for every rupee that Karnataka gives, it gets back only 13 paise.
“This is not 'cooperative federalism'; it is outright exploitation. While the Congress has achieved results in Karnataka, the BJP continues to fail Indians across the country.”
Congress leader Udit Raj said no one in the party can lie like Prime Minister Modi.
“He had talked about Rs 2 crore jobs, approximately ₹15 Lakhs in bills, on doubling farmers' income, on houses for all till 2022. He did nothing but didn't even apologize for it,” ANI reported quoting Udit Raj.
He further added that Kharge and the Congress party have warned that we should only promise as much as possible. 'They're liars. We speak the truth.”
