Cricket West Indies (CWI) president Ricky Skerritt said on Friday that the voice notes circulated on social media suggesting a rift within the senior men’s team is a malicious attack on skipper Kieron Pollard. Voice memos were circulated on social media and in parts of the regional broadcast media, according to the CWI, suggesting there is a rift within the West Indian Senior Men’s team.
“Contrary to the unsubstantiated statements, which contain baseless and mischievous allegations, the CWI is confident that there is no disagreement between the team captain and any member of the West Indies team,” an official statement said.
CWI Chair Ricky Skerritt said: “I see this as a malicious attack on the West Indian captain’s credibility, intended to divide our team who have just delivered three very impressive T20I performances against very strong opponents, including two outstanding wins and one heroic comeback to get within one run of the win.”
“This apparent attempt by known troublemakers to discredit the captain and derail the team’s momentum in the ongoing T20I series should not be tolerated or encouraged,” he added.
The West Indies lead England 2-1 in the T20 International Series of five games at Kensington Oval in Barbados, with the fourth and fifth games of the series to be played at the same venue on Saturday and Sunday.
