Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed happiness on Saturday after India won the right to host the 2023 International Olympic Committee (IOC) session in Mumbai in an overall race, during the 139th IOC session in Beijing, China. The office of the Prime Minister of India wrote on Twitter: “It is gratifying to see that India has been chosen to host the International Olympic Committee session in 2023. The decision confirms that India will host this prestigious IOC meeting for the first time since 1983, in what will mark the beginning of a new era of engagement between India’s youth and the Olympic Movement.
An Indian delegation, consisting of Nita Ambani, the first woman elected as an IOC member from India, and including Narinder Batra, President of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA), Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Anurag Singh Thakur, and India’s first individual gold medalist (Beijing 2008, shooting) Abhinav Bindra, presented a compelling case at the 139th IOC session, held alongside the ongoing Beijing Winter Olympics.
The session, set to take place in the summer of 2023, will take place at the Jio World Convention Center in Mumbai.
An IOC session is the annual meeting of the members of the IOC, consisting of 101 voting members and 45 honorary members.
