England’s chief referee has apologized to Everton manager Frank Lampard for mistakes made on Saturday in Manchester City’s defeat, according to British media reports. An angry Lampard called VAR official Chris Kavanagh a “professional who can’t do his job properly” after the 1-0 loss to the Premier League champions at Goodison Park. Kavanagh failed to warn referee Paul Tierney about a handball from Rodri that would have given the Toffees a late chance to equalize from the penalty spot.
Everton chief executive Denise Barrett-Baxendale wrote to the Premier League on Monday asking for an apology.
It has been reported that Riley, director of Professional Game Match Officials Limited, went on to call both Lampard and Everton chairman Bill Kenwright to apologize for the mistakes made in relation to the Rodri incident.
Lampard said after the game: “The decision is unbelievable and it gives us the opportunity to get what we deserved.
“That’s a call from the VAR. That’s Chris Kavanagh. It wouldn’t have taken more than five seconds to know it was a penalty. He (Kavanagh) should have told the referee to give it or tell him that he had to go look at it.”

“We lost a point because of a professional who can’t do his job properly.”
Everton are 17th in the Premier League, just one point above the relegation zone.
