Ronald Araujo struck just before half-time to save a point for Barcelona on Tuesday at 10-man Sevilla, a result that has benefited La Liga leader Real Madrid. Papu Gomez gave Sevilla the lead after half an hour from a corner in Sevilla, followed by a cross by Ivan Rakitic, but Uruguayan defender Araujo headed in the equalizer just before half time in Sevilla. The hosts were one man behind for half an hour after Jules Kunde was sent off in the 64th minute for throwing the ball at Jordi Alba. But Barcelona did not take advantage of it, despite opportunities with Gavi heading in front of the door and Ousmane Dembele letting the post.
Second-seeded Sevilla is five points behind first place, while leaders Carlo Ancelotti face Atletic Bilbao on Wednesday.
Xavi’s Barcelona missed the chance to finish fourth and move up one place to seventh, 15 points behind Real Madrid.
