More than 10 lakh people booked for more than five lakh nights with hospitality chain OYO for New Year celebrations in 2022, generating bookings worth about Rs 110 crore on the global platform over the weekend, according to Ritesh Agarwal, CEO of the company Founder & group. In a social media post, he said 58 percent of New Year’s Eve bookings were made on the same day, maintaining the trend seen since December 2017 reflecting “impulsive emotion and decision” related to travel.
“Thank you to over a million people who have booked more than half a million nights with us this New Year. It’s been a busy NY (New Year) for all of us at OYO,” he wrote in his LinkedIn post.
He further said: “The booking in 2021 was (the) highest of 90 pandemic weekends since April 2020 with total customer bookings worldwide on our platform worth (approximately) Rs 110 crore ($14.6 million) over the weekend. ” Agarwal said the rooms booked over the New York weekend of December 30-31 in 2021 were 5.03 lakh compared to 1.02 lakh in 2016.
He stated that for many, travel has always been “an impulsive emotion and decision”, he said OYO’s data confirms. The percentage of OYO bookings made on the same day for New Year’s Eve for December 31, 2021 was 58 percent, it was 61 percent in 2020, 57 percent in 2019, 63 percent in 2018 and 55 percent in 2017, he wrote.
Reflecting on the growth of the tech-driven hospitality chain, Agarwal said OYO will have a presence in more than 10,000 cities by 2021 with approximately 1.59 lakh storefronts in 35 countries. In 2015, it was present in 127 cities with 1,229 storefronts.
Referring to the new surge in COVID-19 cases, he said: “Let’s all brace ourselves for what 2022 has in store for us. And while 2020 and 2021 have hit hard, we’ve seen that we will all seize every opportunity. to indulge in what we all love – traveling and exploring the world around us.”
