Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) will be without the services of now retired South African batter AB de Villiers for the first time in more than a decade when the Indian Premier League 2022 (IPL 2022) season kicks off later this year. With the IPL 2022 mega auction being held in Bengaluru on Saturday and Sunday, RCB will be eager to get one or two big hitters into De Villiers’ mold as they try to build a team strong enough to compete for a first. On the eve of the IPL mega sale, RCB head coach Sanjay Bangar recalled De Villiers’ input to the side.
“I’m sure there isn’t a single player on earth who can fill the work AB has done for RCB over such a long period of time. He’s been magical even the last few seasons. So we’re definitely going to miss him, but we will have to face the challenge and I see a lot of opportunities there where we can do something with our team combinations. So those are the questions we will have to answer,” Bangar said in a video shared by RCB on Twitter.

De Villiers played ten years at RCB from 2011 to 2021. He previously played for Delhi Daredevils from 2008 to 2010.

In his IPL career, De Villiers played 184 games and scored a total of 5,162 runs at an average of 39.7. He scored three hundred and forty fifty, and maintained a strike rate of 151.7.
In November last year, he announced his retirement from all forms of cricket.
