The country’s largest lender, the State Bank of India (SBI), has urged its staff not to participate in the proposed two-day strike on December 16-17, 2021, declared by the United Forum of Bank Unions ( UFBU).
The strike has been called in protest at the government’s decision to prick two public banks.
SBI said that it is not in the best interest of its customers, investors and the bank itself.
Last week, SBI said it had taken the necessary steps to ensure normal operation of its facilities during the two-day strike. It added that it was likely that work at the bank would be affected by the strike.
“Given the proposed two-day bank strike on December 16 and 17, 2021, SBI has requested employees to reconsider their decision and not to participate in the strike on that date in the interest of our customers, investors and the bank,” a statement from the bank said. lender on Monday.
Given the ongoing pandemic situation, resorting to a strike will cause major inconvenience to stakeholders, the bank’s statement said.
SBI said it aims to make normal operations in its branches and offices available to all customers by December 16 and 17.
“However, in the event that services are interrupted or partially available, we also request that our customers transact well in advance and use the digital channels for payments/money transfer and other related services,” said SBI.
