Lok Sabha News: Chaos ensued in the Lok Sabha after Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP from Bareilly Chhatra Pal Singh Gangwar ended his oath with 'Jai Hindu Rashtra'. Gangwar's statement appeared to have been made in a literal response to 'Jai Palestine' by AIMIM chief and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi.
While being sworn in as a Member of Parliament during the 18th session of the Lok Sabha, Owaisi ended his oath by saying, “Jai Bhim, Jai Meem, Jai Telangana, Jai Palestine.” Owaisi, who has been elected for his fifth term from the Hyderabad seat, took the oath in Urdu and recited a prayer before taking it.
Members of the INDIA bloc strongly opposed the BJP MP from Bareilly's 'Jai Hindu Rashtra' saying it is against the principles of the Constitution of India. Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav objected to Gangwar's 'Jai Hindu Rashtra' comment, saying “it was against the values of the Constitution.”
According to reports, Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi sang 'Jai Palestine' as he ended his oath as an elected member of the Lok Sabha.
Owaisi later said: “Other members also say different things… I said 'Jai Bheem, Jai Telangana, Jai Palestine'. How is it wrong? Tell me the provision of the Constitution? You should also listen to what others say. I said what to do. Read what Mahatma Gandhi had said about Palestine.”
When asked the reason why he said 'Jai Palestine', Owaisi said: “Waha ki awaam mahroom hai (the people there are destitute). Mahatma Gandhi said so many things about Palestine and you can go and read it.”
Owaisi's comments sparked controversy, prompting BJP MP Shobha Karandlaje to object to his 'Jai Palestine' statement. The chairman assured her that only approved speeches would be recorded. Owaisi clarified that he made his statement within parliamentary rules.
Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy later criticized Owaisi's slogan, calling it “absolutely wrong”.
“This is against the rules of the House. He is not saying 'Bharat Mata ki Jai' while living in India… People should understand that he is doing unconstitutional work while living in the country,” Reddy told ANI.
Meanwhile, BJP MP from Ghaziabad Atul Garg said 'Narendra Modi Zindabad' at the end of his oath-taking ceremony. The opposition INDIA bloc opposed this, after which MP Atul Garg returned to the podium and said, “Dr. Hedge Trimmer Zindabad'.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi also took oath as Member of Parliament (MP) from Raebareli in Lok Sabha on Tuesday with a copy of the Constitution in his hand.
He was among the remaining MPs who took oath today, after a total of 262 newly elected MPs, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, did so on Monday, during the opening session of the 18th Lok Sabha.
