The Lok Sabha panel will report on Mahua Moitra's expulsion on Monday

According to the agenda papers circulated by the Lok Sabha Secretariat, Ethics Committee chairman Vinod Kumar Sonkar will table the panel's first report in the House of Representatives.

The committee at a meeting on November 9 adopted its report recommending the expulsion of Mahua Moitra from the Lok Sabha over the “cash-for-query” charge.

Six members of the panel voted in favor of the report, including Congresswoman Preneet Kaur, who was earlier suspended from the party. Four members of the opposition party panel filed dissenting opinions.

Calling the report a “fixed match”, the Opposition members said the complaint filed by BJP Lok Sabha member Nishikant Dubey, which was considered by the panel, was not supported by a “sliver of evidence”.

Mahua Moitra can only be deported if the House of Representatives votes in favor of the panel's recommendation.

The winter session of parliament starts on Monday and is expected to last until December 22.

On November 25, the CBI registered a preliminary inquiry against Trinamool Congress Lok Sabha MP Mahua Moitra on a referral from anti-corruption ombudsman Lokpal.

The CBI has initiated a preliminary inquiry, which is the first step in determining whether the allegations merit a full-fledged investigation. If sufficient preliminary material is found during the PE, the CBI can convert it into an FIR.

Just days after Mahua Moitra's expulsion was recommended by the Lok Sabha Ethics panel, the TMC MP was appointed as district chief in Krishnanagar constituency.

Mahua Moitra is accused of accepting “illegal rewards” to ask questions in parliament on behalf of businessman Darshan Hiranandani.

In response, Mahua Moitra dismissed the decision as a “pre-ordained contest by a kangaroo court” and deemed it a “death of parliamentary democracy”.
