The study takes into account people’s behavior in non-household activities during the second wave of the pandemic, when there were restrictions, compared to behavior in September and November last year, when there were no restrictions. According to the study, shopping, during both the restriction and non-restriction phases, was responsible for the majority of infections contracted outdoors, closely followed by using public transportation and leaving home to go to work.
The study also said that while participating in indoor or outdoor sports activities contributed to a greater risk, it was likely caused by the social events associated with them. According to the study, people who even leave their homes for shopping twice a week are more likely to be exposed to the virus than others.
Less risky than the activities mentioned above yet enough not to be ignored are eating in indoor restaurants or cafes, sharing a car with someone who is not from the same household and attending indoor or outdoor parties. The study also noted some activities that did not cause person-to-person transmission of the infection. These activities include attending theaters, movie theaters, concerts, indoor sporting events, or beauty service appointments.
