The Trinamool Congress on Monday distanced itself from the allied Congress amid an ongoing debate over 'EVM manipulation'. Senior party leader Abhishek Banerjee urged the party to 'show evidence to the Election Commission' instead of 'making a few statements'. The comments echo a similar claim made by fellow INDIA bloc leader Omar Abdullah last week.
“This is my personal view that those asking questions about the EVMs should show a demonstration of its discrepancies to the EC. They should show every video [as evidence] to the EC. The EC even called everyone. I have been holding elections on the ground for quite some time now. If someone is working properly during EVM randomization and the booth staff are checking EVMs during mock polls or looking at the Form 17C, which is used to check voting units or control units, while counting votes, then I don't think there is anything significant in these accusations [of EVM manipulation]. Even after that, if anyone thinks that the EVMs can be tampered, a delegation of them should visit the EC and show a demo or proof showing that there is malware or technology to hack EVMs. If they are unable to do so [show evidence]a movement or Andolan must be organized [by them] about the issue. Making just two to three statements on an issue means nothing,” said senior TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee.
