Kyiv:
Volodymyr Zelensky had tried to use provocations at the Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) to persuade western countries to establish a no-fly zone over Ukraine, Ukraine’s former Prime Minister Mykola Azarov has told Sputnik.
On Friday, the Russian defense ministry said Ukrainian authorities attempted overnight provocation by accusing Russia of creating a source of radioactive contamination at the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant.
While patrolling the area adjacent to the station, a group of the Russian National Guard was attacked by a Ukrainian sabotage unit that opened fire on them from the windows of several floors of an education and training complex outside the nuclear power plant. The shooting posts of the Ukrainian sabotage group were suppressed by backfire.
“Of course it was a deliberate provocation because, first of all, no sane Russian or Ukrainian soldier would ever dare to carry out this kind of provocation on the territory of Europe’s largest nuclear power plant, which has six nuclear power plants,” Azarov said. said.
He noted that “even a minor fire in the training and retraining center was still an emergency in such a super-class nuclear facility.”
“So, firstly, it is absolutely clear that this was a deliberate provocation. Secondly, it appears from Zelenskyy’s immediate response that was overnight and his immediate message to the Americans and the UK with absolutely misinformation itself that this was a prepared provocation, which he was aware of, because he used this provocation to create a no-fly zone over Ukraine,” Azarov concluded.
