Children who suffer from a tongue tie cannot stick it out, even if they wanted to.
If a child has trouble speaking even after reaching a certain age, see if they have speech problems.
Every parent waits with bated breath for their child’s word. However, there are a few children who cannot speak even after reaching the age when most other children begin to talk. In such a situation, many parents think that the child does not speak much because of his/her nature. They think that the child will talk when he/she wants to.
However, this is a big mistake. If a child has trouble speaking even after reaching a certain age, see if they have a speech impediment or a tongue tie.
What is a tongue tie?
This is a problem where the frenulum of the child’s tongue is shorter than necessary. This binds the child’s tongue to the underside of the mouth, preventing the tongue from being easily lifted or moved by the child. Because of this problem, the child has great difficulty speaking or moving the tongue.
What are the symptoms of a tongue tie?
Children who suffer from a tongue tie cannot stick it out, even if they wanted to. In such cases, a patch of vertical skin even begins to appear under the tongue, preventing the baby’s tongue from moving. The child cannot move the tongue properly or upwards. The child cannot drink milk properly; he/she will continue to hold and release the nipple.
Because of this problem, they make a clicking sound while drinking liquid. Due to this problem, the weight of some children also begins to decrease significantly. If a child shows these symptoms, the doctor should be consulted immediately.
