World Energy Saving Day has been celebrated on December 14 every year since 1991. The Indian Energy Conservation Act was implemented in 2001 by the Indian Energy Efficiency Agency. The Agency works under the Government of India and focuses on policies related to energy conservation. On this day, the government, industries and other non-profit organizations educate people about the conservation of energy resources. As responsible citizens, it is also our responsibility to reduce power consumption. Here are several ways to reduce power consumption.
Teach kids about it
Children and young people are the future of the country. And there is no better way than educating children and teaching them how to save energy. Reduce, reuse and recycle are the three most important R’s to talk about when we talk about saving energy.
Replace your lamps
Traditional lamps consume an excessive amount of energy and need to be replaced more often. Energy-efficient bulbs are more expensive, but their longer lifespan means they cost less in the long run.
Buy energy efficient appliances
Household appliances are responsible for 13% of household energy consumption. When purchasing a device, one should therefore pay attention to the purchase costs and the operating costs.
Use power strips
Power strips are devices you can plug into your wall that provide multiple outlets to plug in other electronics. Power strips are especially useful because they help users avoid overloading outlets and avoid consuming a lot of energy.
Turn off the electronic item when not in use
Televisions, radios and computer monitors and chargers consume a lot of energy than expected and we tend to turn a blind eye to it leaving it on after using it. The only and best way to combat unnecessary energy is to turn off these devices when they are not in use.
