The US jury found that comedian Bill Cosby sexually assaulted a teenage Judy Huth in the 1970s when she was 16.
Los Angeles:
A California jury found Tuesday that entertainer Bill Cosby sexually assaulted a teenager at the Playboy Mansion nearly five decades ago.
Judy Huth, now 64, was awarded $500,000 in damages after the Santa Monica jury found that Cosby assaulted her in 1975 when she was only 16 years old.
The case is one of the few remaining legal actions against Cosby, 84, who has been accused of assault by dozens of women.
He was jailed in a separate criminal case in Pennsylvania in 2018, but was released last year when his conviction over a technical problem was overturned.
During a two-week civil hearing, which Cosby did not attend, lawyers said the man once known as “America’s Dad” escorted Huth and her then 17-year-old boyfriend, Donna Samuelson, to the mansion after they had them on a film. meet. kit.
Cosby denied any wrongdoing and his lawyers made frequent mention of apparent discrepancies in Hutch’s story, including the fact that both teens spent up to 12 hours in the mansion after the alleged attack.
They also claimed that Huth originally claimed the attack happened in 1974 when she was 15, but later said it happened the following year.
The case was never prosecuted as the statute of limitations had expired by the time Huth spoke to police.
Huth was able to file a civil suit under a California law that would allow adults who say they were victims of sexual abuse as minors, but suppressed what had happened to them for years, to sue.
