The restaurant employee was arrested and given a one-year prison sentence.
An employee at a fast food restaurant in the US shot a customer after an argument over missing curly fries. In a lawsuit filed in Houston, Anthony Ramos said he had gone to pick up his wife and daughter at the George Bush Intercontinental Airport and stopped at a drive-thru outlet of the Jack-in-the-Box restaurant. The family ordered a combination meal, but discovered that fries were missing. When Mr. Ramos complained about it, an argument ensued and one of the employees pulled out a gun and promoted the family to drive away in the car to avoid gunfire.
The incident took place in March 2021, but the video was released on Monday ABC news.
It shows restaurant worker Alonniea Fantasia Ford holding a gun ready and jumping out the window to shoot at the vehicle. She shot the family at least twice, Ramos’ lawsuit says.
His attorney Randall Kallinen (the family) paid $12.99 for the combination meal but did not get the curly fries, which sparked an argument.
The entire incident lasted 15 minutes, when Mrs. Ford became agitated and threw ice and spices before shooting at the family.
“Jack-in-the-Box must conduct background checks on employees so as not to expose their customers to someone who would try to kill them,” Kallinen said in a statement.
The lawsuit was filed in 2022 and Mr. Kallinen obtained the video after a discovery request. ABC news reported.
The lawsuit alleges that Jack-in-the-Box was negligent for failing to keep customers safe.
However, the restaurant has denied all allegations and stated that it has “no control” over and “is not legally responsible” for third parties such as Ms. Ford.
The employee is also named in the lawsuit, which seeks at least $250,000 in damages.
Ms. Ford was initially charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, but pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of deadly conduct, said ABC news. She received a one-year deferred sentence sentence and completed it in June, the report further said, citing court documents.
