A woman in the US was arrested last week after her car carrying two children caught fire while shoplifting at a store. Fox news reported. According to the report, Alicia Moore, 24, parked her car outside Dillard’s department store in Oviedo Mall on May 26, leaving her two children in the vehicle.
She then entered the mall with another man and began stealing from the store, according to police. When she walked out of the store an hour later, she found her car completely engulfed in flames. According to police, she dropped the allegedly stolen items and ran out of the mall.
Fortunately, nearby customers ran to the car and helped rescue the two children inside. The police and emergency services were contacted and quickly arrived on the scene. The children were taken to hospital and treated for multiple first-degree burns.
The woman is now charged with severe child neglect and arson. Fox Orlando reported.
The arrest report says, “While at Dillard’s, Loss Prevention (employees) observed Moore and another unknown man begin stealing items. They were watched by security for about an hour.”
One girl “suffered multiple first-degree burns, particularly to her face and ears,” the arrest report said.
The vehicle was declared a total loss due to the fire, police said. Meanwhile, the cause of the fire has not been determined.
According to Orlando Sentinelshe has also been charged with grand larceny twice, first for shoplifting approximately $1,000 worth of goods from a target in 2017 and second for stealing $1,500 in gift cards from the 7-11 where she worked in 2018.
She is being held in the Seminole County Jail on $48,000 bail, jail records show. Her next scheduled trial is her arraignment on June 27.
