According to the police, Mrs. Boone was driving “erratically.”
A Florida woman killed herself and two other people Thursday when she crashed head-on into oncoming traffic after stealing a sheriff's deputy's patrol car and taking authorities on a high-speed chase, according to a report in the New York Post.
“This idiot stole a police vehicle and killed two people,” said Marion County Sheriff Billy Woods. According to the Marion County Sheriff's Office, deputies were called to a “suspicious incident” at a shopping center in Silver Springs when a woman, identified as 33-year-old Kendra Boone, allegedly tried to steal an elderly woman's keys.
Around 2 p.m., Deputy Chris Witte arrived in his patrol SUV and told Ms. Boone to go to the back of his car as he briefly got out, the sheriff said. However, according to the images, she jumped into his car through the open passenger window, where the key was in the ignition.
Mr. Witte shouted at the woman and asked her to stop. He then chases her and opens the driver's door to pull her out. However, she quickly left the parking lot. The sheriff said that when Ms. Boone tried to elude officers, she was “driving erratically” and “traveling at a speed of over 100 miles per hour.”
During the chase, Ms. Boone attempted to pass a semi-truck on the highway by going into the right shoulder. She lost control and drove over the double yellow lines into oncoming traffic as she rejoined the road. However, she collided head-on with a black pickup truck. When emergency services arrived, the woman and the three occupants of the truck were unresponsive.
The woman, along with a 73-year-old male driver and a 72-year-old female passenger, were pronounced dead at the scene. The third person was taken to a hospital in critical condition.
Mr Woods said they panicked when they heard about the stolen vehicle.
“We know what's in the vehicle. There's a long gun in there. The moment she did that, she was a threat to human life – a threat just because she got into that car. Think about that for a moment. What do citizens think when they see blue lights coming down the road? They think he's a good person, not an asshole like this,” he said.
He said she was recently released from prison and has a lengthy criminal history. He added: “If this person had been in prison, I wouldn't have two dead, innocent people. I don't care about her. My deputy did absolutely nothing wrong.”
