A woman from the United States who traveled to Mexico to receive treatment at a drug rehabilitation center has reportedly been murdered and dismembered.
Referring to local authorities, vice news reported that 35-year-old Celia Yanel Castaneda was taken to rehab by her relatives after returning from the US, where she had lived for the past 10 years. During her first night at Monarch rehab, she reportedly had a “violent episode” due to her withdrawal symptoms and attacked both owners of the center.
The rehabilitation center owners, identified as Diana Paola and Claudia Rubi, beat Ms. Celia to death in retaliation. They then even tried to hide her dead body by cutting it up, vice news reported.
According to a police report, police found a metal garbage can at the rehabilitation center containing black and white pajamas and a blood-stained woman’s slipper. Police also said that the owners of the rehab center tried to flee but were quickly apprehended when they went further into the premises to investigate.

At the property, officials reportedly found plastic buckets filled with human bones and flesh in the bathtub, along with plastic bags containing six large bones and two knee bones. According to the outlet, police also found a blender in the kitchen that contained human flesh. Police suspect the suspects attempted to liquefy the victim’s soft body tissues.
The gruesome details came out in particular at a recent hearing, where the judge read a police report detailing the scene that took place at the property. After reading the report, the judge said he was refraining from uncovering any more graphic details in order to preserve the victim’s dignity.
“In order not to victimize the victim again, for the sake of her dignity, I will not proceed,” the judge said.
The lawsuit against the owners of the rehabilitation center is still ongoing. They could face life in prison if found guilty.
