Elon Musk said on Saturday that he has formed a new political party, the 'America Party', of which he claims to give Americans 'your freedom'.
“With a factor of 2 to 1 you want a new political party and you will have it!” Musk wrote on X, one day after he posted a poll on the platform in which he asked his followers if they support them in creating the 'America Party'.
Musk, the world's richest man, suggested on Friday that the new party could concentrate on “only 2 or 3 senate seats and 8 to 10 house districts.”
“Given the razor-thin legislative margins, that would be enough to serve as the decisive mood about controversial laws, to ensure that they serve the true will of the people,” said Musk on Friday.
Musk did not say where the party can be registered. It did not seem to have been registered with the Federal Election Committee.
He also said that the party would be independently of caucus and that “legislative discussions would be held with both parties”, according to an answer to a user to X.
Musk was the largest donor during the presidential campaign of 2024 and gave more than $ 280 million during the cycle, mainly to presidential candidate Donald Trump, although he also supported other Republican candidates.
If Musk chooses to participate in competitive congress races in 2026, this can make a considerable difference in a narrow competition.

It was a dramatic change for the two men, who had been close allies in the early days of the second Trump administration. Musk had previously led Trump's efforts to lower the federal government by the controversial “Department of Government Efficiency” (Doge), but stepped back from his role in May after his special government employee had ended.
Since the fight with Trump, Musk has publicly driven the idea of a new political party, especially in the midst of his constant strong opposition against the radical domestic policy package of Trump, which passed last week.
