Apple supplier Foxlink has halted production at its assembly facility in Andhra Pradesh and evacuated 400 of its workers following a massive fire today, two local government officials told Reuters.
Foxlink makes cables for iPhones. About 50% of the machinery in the facility was damaged and half of the building collapsed, said J Ramanaiah, who heads the Disaster Response and Fire Department for Tirupati district in the state where the incident took place.
Management has estimated damages of Rs 1 billion ($12 million) to the facility, he said, adding that there were no casualties.
Apple did not immediately respond to a request for comment. A Foxlink official did not respond to calls.
