A painting is a precious possession. To create one masterpiece, artists expend their full concentration. Imagine burning off all that effort and hard work. Damien Hirst, a famous British artist, decided to set fire to his most valuable paintings. Not only that, he also streamed live on social media as the artworks burned in the fire. Everyone was stunned after seeing this.
Three days ago, Mr. Hirst shared a video on his official Instagram page. While posting the video, he wrote: “Tomorrow I’ll burn my 1,000 The Currency artworks that I kept as NFTs (non-fungible tokens). A lot of people think I’m burning millions of dollars worth of art, but I’m not. , finish I’m transforming these physical artworks into NFTs by burning the physical versions.”
“The value of digital or physical art, which is hard to define at the best of times, will not be lost. It will be transferred to the NFT once they are burned and I will be streaming the full fire live here on Instagram. Tune tomorrow at 12:30pm BST,” added Mr Hirst.
After being shared, the video drew over 4.6 lakh views and over 19,000 likes, but it’s still counting. Numerous users responded in the comment section of the post.
“Interesting strategy to maximize the carbon footprint for this collection,” wrote one user.
“However you slice it, your work is reduced to a tax-free way to transfer ownership of pre-existing pools of money,” said another.
Realizing the value of those NFTs, a third user wrote, “Wouldn’t burn one and send it my way, as I’ll never be able to afford one.”
The artist also posted a photo of himself on his official Instagram handle after burning the artwork two days ago, writing, “Finished burning!!!”
