Kyiv:
A bus collided with a tanker truck in western Ukraine on Tuesday, killing at least 17 people, authorities said, adding to the woes of the war-torn country.
In his daily address to the nation late Tuesday, President Volodymyr Zelensky said a “terrible traffic accident” had occurred in the western region of Rivne.
“A bus, a car and a tanker have collided with each other. So far 17 people have been killed, but there could be more victims,” Zelensky said, expressing his condolences to those who lost loved ones in the accident.
The accident did not appear to be directly related to Russia’s war against Ukraine, which is in its third month, and Zelensky made no mention of any connection in his speech.
In recent weeks, Russia has focused its attacks on southern and eastern Ukraine, while occasionally attacking sites in western regions.
