A devastating incident took place in northern Gaza, where a team of charity workers of the Al Khair Foundation registered in the UK was tragically killed in Israeli strikes. According to the charity, eight employees lost their lives when their vehicles were the target on Saturday. The victims were volunteers and journalists who documented the activities of the charity in the area.
The Israeli army claimed that it had focused on “two terrorists” who had a drone that posed a threat to Israeli troops. However, the Al Khair Foundation fiercely rejects this statement and declares that her team members were not terrorists.
Qasim Rashid Ahmad, founder and chairman of the charity, gave a harrowing report of the incident to the BBC. He explained that the team was in the area to set up tents and document their activities for promotional purposes. Tragically enough, the two cameramen were beaten while they returned to their car, and other team members who rushed to the scene, then became the target of an Israeli drone.
Several others were injured in the attack and were rushed to the Indonesian hospital in the Northern Gaza Strip. The Hamas-Runned Ministry of Health confirmed the victims.
Hazem Qassem, a Hamas spokesperson, strongly condemned the incident and stated that Israel “had committed a horrible massacre in the northern Gaza Strip by focusing on a group of journalists and humanitarian workers.”
The incident has expressed concern about the fragile cessation -the fires between Israel and Hamas, which has been in force since January. With the peace process in an impasse, however, the fears grow from a return to fighting.
The conflict between Israel and Hamas started in October 2023, when Hamas launched a surprise attack on Israel, who killed more than 1200 people and took 251 hostages. Israel reacted with a huge military offensive, which led to the death of more than 48,300 Palestinians, according to Hamas-Runned Health Minister of Hamas.
