Mercedes Valentine, a 25-year-old model with neuroscientist, suffered a devastating motorcycle crash when she collided with a pigeon. The accident left her with serious physical injuries, including a broken nose, skull, shoulder and ribs, as well as a broken eye socket and shattered pelvis. The crash also took a toll about the mental health of Valentine, which caused memory loss that led her memories of the month to and after the accident, the New York Post reported.
“When I open my eyes, I sometimes don't even recognize myself. Because I function differently and can't remember most things, it is as if my brain is someone else. It is really confusing and emotionally challenging to come to terms. I had to live and adjust to this, as another person,” she told another person, “she told another Needtoknow.
For the fatal summer of 2024, Mrs. Valentine's had a thriving career. She had just bought a lush house for more than $ 900,000 and a slim blue Porsche Taycan Turbo for more than $ 100,000. A day before the accident she celebrated the 60th birthdays and retirement of her parents. When it was time to leave, she chose to drive home with her motorland instead of joining her family in their car, a decision that changed her life forever.
“I was not smart and went very quickly in a residential street where a pigeon on the lamppost was above me. When I approached, it went down and didn't know what it was at the time, I tried to avoid it. But then it hit my head and I waved it,” she told it Ny post.
While she waved to avoid the bird, her motorcycle crashed into a parked car and sent her 260 feet through the air. She landed six houses away from the point of impact, after which bystanders hurried to ask for emergency aid. Fortunately, Valentine's family, who are all medical professionals, were driving behind her and could immediately offer help.
“I lay on the road for about two minutes before they arrived. I was blue and did not respond, my students were dilated and it was assumed that I was dead. My father finally saved my life while he resisted my helmet to stop stitching and stopping bleeding as well as possible,” she added.
She was then taken to the hospital and it was discovered that she lost more than three liters of blood from the incident. According to doctors, Mrs. Valentine was confronted with the possibility of blindness, double visibility and total numbness as soon as her physical wounds heal. Moreover, she suffered from Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, a condition that weakens joints and bones.
When Valentine finally came to consciousness a week after the accident, she could only remember the name of her friend, Mark and her family members. All the other, including the accident itself, was a complete blank. After a stay in the hospital hospital, she was finally fired and returned home, liked to resume her life. However, it was only then that the full size of her memory loss became clear.
“It was shocking and traumatizing. I would be in the gym, and someone would say hello and I would have no idea who they were. I had to come to terms quickly with the fact that my memory never returned. The time is completely distorted to me now.
As she tries to breathe new life into her content creation, she is confronted with insensitive remarks about her appearance, in particular her bruised eye and scars. Despite the challenges, Valentine has taken responsibility for the accident and acknowledging that greater caution could have prevented it. She uses her experience to warn fellow cyclists, to emphasize the importance of situational consciousness, to know the boundaries and always to bear a helmet because it ultimately saved her life.
