Rio de Janeiro:
Leaders of the countries that are known will hold a top in Rio de Janeiro in July, the current chairman Brazil announced on Saturday.
Other members of the trade block are Russia, India, China and South Africa and others.
The Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira said on the social media platform X that the top 6-7 July will be held and leaders of 20 countries with full or associated status in the block.
During this meeting “we will make very important decisions for the development of all these countries, for cooperation and for improving the living conditions of all their inhabitants,” said Vieira.
US President Donald Trump has threatened to impose 100 percent rates on the BRICS countries if they undermine the US dollar.
During a BRICS summit in October in Russia, the Member States discussed the stimulation of non-dollar transactions and strengthening the local currency.
President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva has said that Brazilian presidency under the Brazilian Bloc will concentrate on strengthening the cooperation with developing countries of the so -called Global South and on reforming multilateral institutions.
He said that the priorities of Brazil for the block “the development of payment means” include to encourage trade and investments between the Member States.
Last month the main negotiator of Brazil for the BRICS group, Eduardo Saboia, AFP told that there is no concrete plan to replace the dollar, but rather conversations about the use of local currencies in transactions.
The BRICS group has been considerably expanded since its foundation in 2009 and now includes countries such as Iran, Egypt and the United Arab Emirates.
All in all, the BRICS coalition is good for a considerable minority of the economic output of the world.
