Mari Dinjaku has been linked to a number of burglaries.
A serial burglar, responsible for several ‘sophisticated’ burglaries at various locations across Britain, stealing items worth more than £800,000 ($1,009,132), was eventually apprehended because an electronic tag was found in the stolen luggage was placed.
Mari Dinjaku, aged 38, was arrested at his home in Wokingham, Berkshire. This breakthrough came about through the use of an Apple AirTag, which was discreetly placed in a briefcase stolen in a burglary 15 miles away from Dinjaku’s home.
A burglary was reported in Woking on 5 January, according to a statement from Surrey Police. The property had been ransacked and a lime green suitcase, clothing and jewelry had been stolen. An Apple AirTag left in the briefcase helped officers track the briefcase to Dinjaku’s home address, where he was arrested. A search also found walkie-talkies, false documents, a large amount of cash in various currencies, gloves and face coverings and 15 mobile phones, one of which was in the vicinity of the Woking burglary at the time of the offence.”
The police further mentioned that Dinjaku was also forensically linked to two vehicles near his home address. One of these was linked to a second burglary in Farnham in December 2022, in which a car was stolen along with two safes of jewelery – a loss believed to have exceeded £350,000. A walkie-talkie was found at this address, of the same make and model as the set found in Wokingham, but one walkie-talkie was missing.
Dinjaku has been sentenced to six years in prison for his involvement in a conspiracy to commit burglaries in Surrey and Manchester.
The investigating officer, PC Tom Hinch, said: “Mari Dinjaku caused considerable distress and financial loss to the victims he broke into. These were serious crimes, committed with great planning and disregard for the impact breaking into someone’s home can have. rightly received a significant prison sentence. We will continue to prosecute criminals conspiring to commit these types of crimes in Surrey.”
