A man who was convicted of killing a 79-year-old widow in her house died in prison. Gareth Dack, 41, was found dead in HMP Frankland, a well -known British prison with various risky prisoners. A spokesperson for a prison service confirmed death and added that the prison and probation Ombudsman would investigate the incident.
Dack was convicted in 2017 after strangling Norma Bell in her burning house in Hartlepool in 2016. According to the BBC, Mr. Dack broke into her house, stole a television and £ 700 (about RS 73,000) in cash. He then started shooting in Mrs. Bell's house and put on the gas to cause an explosion.
Mrs. Bell also had bruises on her shoulders and ribs of someone kneeling on her. Dack also called sex chat lines while she was dead, according to reports.
During the hearing, Justice Whipple described Dack as 'perverest and disgusting'. The Four father was brought to the Crown Court of Tesside and accused of murder and set fire to her house. He served a lifelong prison sentence.
According to the BBC, Dack, a drug user who heavily in debt, borrowed £ 10 (about RS 1,050) of the victim and described her as a 'great woman'.
During the conviction, the judge said that Mrs. Bell had not done anything to provoke or earn such a treatment. She said, “You killed Norma Bell in cool blood in her own house when she was defenseless.”
She also said that after the murder, Dack tried to destroy evidence by set fire to her house. “She had done nothing to earn your violence, and then you put her home in a failed attempt to cover your traces,” she added.
Bell had three sons with her deceased husband, John. They also provided six foster children for a long time and treated them as their own.
After the trial, a family said in a statement that Mrs. Bell had a 'heart as large as a lion'.
