A Colombian lawmaker has apologized after she was caught vaping on camera during a meeting of the country's parliament to discuss healthcare reforms. According to USA todayCathy Juvinao, a member of the Green Alliance Party representing the city of Bogota, was seen on camera using a vape pen as she was about to address the legislative body during Tuesday's session on health policy changes. The video quickly circulated online, prompting the congressman to apologize on social media. In her position, Ms. Juvinao acknowledged her error in judgment and vowed not to repeat this behavior. “I apologize to the citizens for what happened yesterday during the plenary meeting. I do not join the bad example that currently dominates the public debate and that will not be repeated,” she wrote in Spanish.
“Rest assured that today I will continue to fight from the House with the same arguments and rigor as always,” she added.
According to USA todayIn Colombia, smoking and vaping are banned in government buildings, including parliamentary chambers. Earlier this year, Colombian President Gustavo Petro also signed legislation aimed at curbing and regulating the sale of electronic cigarettes and vaping devices in the country.

Meanwhile, Ms. Juvinao's actions have drawn mixed reactions on social media. While some condemned the breach of protocol, others appreciated the congressman's quick acknowledgment and apology.
“It's muscle memory. She wasn't aware she was doing it. Watch how she reacts when she realizes what she's done. Shame and discomfort. This is no different than drinking coffee in a meeting if you do it consistently. I don't say this is good or professional, but there are sometimes physiological causes for actions,” one user wrote.
“Setting a good example… not exactly what they had in mind for a meeting on healthcare reform,” said another.
