The latest diplomatic row between India and Canada will not affect the ongoing bilateral military engagement and the matter must be resolved at the political level, Canada’s Deputy Army Chief Major General Peter Scott said on Tuesday.
Here, Scott leads a Canadian delegation at the Indo-Pacific Army Chiefs’ Conference (IPACC), attended by military delegations from more than 30 countries.
“As far as I know at this point, that won’t impact us. We leave the matter to the political level to try to find a solution,” he told PTI.
“We’re happy to be here, and we don’t see the issue clouding things at this point,” Maj. Gen. Scott said.
Ties between India and Canada came under severe strain following Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s allegations of a “potential” involvement of Indian agents in the killing of Khalistani separatist Hardeep Singh Nijjar in June.
India has dismissed the allegations as “absurd” and “motivated” and has expelled a senior Canadian diplomat in a bid to get Ottawa to expel an Indian official over the case.
“This is an issue between our two countries at a political level.
