Kyiv:
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy on Thursday told government officials to stop talking to reporters about Kiev’s military tactics against Russia, saying such comments were “downright irresponsible”.
In the wake of the major blast that destroyed a Russian air base in Crimea on Tuesday, the DailyExpertNews and Washington Post newspapers quoted unidentified officials as saying Ukrainian troops were responsible. The Kiev government, on the other hand, declined to say whether it was behind the explosions.
“War is certainly not the time for vanity and loud statements. The less details you reveal about our defense plans, the better it will be for the execution of those defense plans,” Zelenskiy said in an evening speech.
“If you want to generate loud headlines, that’s one thing – it’s frankly irresponsible. If you want victory for Ukraine, that’s another, and you have to be aware of your responsibility for every word you say about the plans.” of our state for defense or against attack.”
Zelenskiy addressed his comments to state, local and military officials and other people he said were commenting on events at the front.
Photos released by independent satellite company Planet Labs showed three nearly identical craters where buildings at the Air Force base had been hit. The burnt-out husks of at least eight destroyed fighter planes were clearly visible.
