Billionaire Elon Musk – the richest person in the world – has said he currently has no home and sleeps in friends’ spare rooms. The revelation was made by Musk in a recent interview with TED’s Chris Anderson.
‘I don’t even have a house right now. I’m literally staying with friends,” he quoted the… New York Post†
“When I travel to the Bay Area, where most of Tesla’s engineering is, I basically rotate through friends’ guest rooms,” added the Tesla CEO.
“I don’t have a yacht, I don’t go on vacation,” he added. Musk responded to a question about wealth inequality around the world and the amount of money billionaires spend.
“I think there are axiomatic flaws that lead to that conclusion. It would be very problematic if I were consuming billions of dollars a year in personal consumption, but that’s not the case,” Musk said.
“It’s not like my personal consumption is high, the only exception being the plane. If I don’t use the plane, I have fewer hours to work,” he added.
The video was shared on TED’s YouTube channel on Sunday.
Last year, the billionaire tweeted that his primary residence is a lease from SpaceX, worth $50,000. In the same tweet, he also admitted to owning an “event house” in the Bay Area.
Musk has a net worth of $269.5 billion, according to Forbes. He is currently in the news for his offer to buy the microblogging site Twitter.
Musk currently owns a 9.1 percent stake in Twitter and is the social media company’s second largest shareholder. Earlier this week, Tesla’s CEO offered to buy out the company for $43 billion.
