British authorities have cleared criminal charges against Harvey Weinstein for two charges of sexually assaulting a woman in London in 1996, the country’s Crown Prosecution Service said in a press release on Wednesday.
Mr. Weinstein, 70, has been convicted of sex crimes in New York and is awaiting trial in Los Angeles, where he has been charged with several charges of violent rape, among other things.
“Charges have been filed against Harvey Weinstein, 70, following a review of the evidence gathered by the Metropolitan Police in its investigation,” the press release said.
Earlier this month, a New York court of appeals upheld Weinstein’s 2020 conviction for sex crimes, raising the odds that he would serve a significant portion of his 23-year sentence. A lawyer for Mr. Weinstein said at the time that his legal team would ask the state’s highest court, the Court of Appeals, to review the decision.
