Washington:
Meta Platforms Inc’s social media apps were unavailable to thousands of users in the United States on Wednesday, according to outage tracking website Downdetector.com.
According to Downdetector.com, more than 18,000 Instagram users reported issues accessing the app and about 13,000 incidents were reported for the Facebook app. Outage reports also spiked for WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger, data from Downdetector.com showed.
Downdetector tracks outages by collecting status reports from various sources, including user-submitted errors on its platform.
Outages of Big Tech platforms are not uncommon as several companies ranging from Google to Microsoft have seen service outages.
Earlier on Wednesday, Microsoft was hit by a network outage that took its cloud platform Azure and services like Teams and Outlook offline, affecting millions of users worldwide.
Meta did not immediately respond to Reuters’ request for comment.
