Two of the helicopter's propellers came loose and one landed in the hotel's swimming pool: Report (Representative)
Sydney:
Hundreds of hotel guests in a popular Australian tourist city have been evacuated after a helicopter crashed into the roof of the hotel, authorities said Monday.
Emergency services were called to the crash at around 2:00 am on Monday (16:00 GMT on Sunday) at Hilton's Double Tree Hotel in the northern city of Cairns, which is considered the gateway to Australia's Great Barrier Reef, media reported.
“The building was evacuated as a precaution and no people on the ground were injured. Police are on scene investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident,” Queensland State Police said in a statement.
Police have not released the condition of the pilot or whether there are any passengers on board, but a video on social media shows a fire on the roof of the hotel.
According to Australian media, two of the helicopter's propellers became detached and one propeller landed in the hotel's swimming pool.
