One of the attorneys on Johnny Depp’s legal team, Camille Vasquez, appears to have become the internet’s favorite as the six-week televised trial between the two Hollywood bigwigs came to a close yesterday, resulting in Mr. Depp to Amber Heard.
Over the course of the trial, while trying to defend her client, the young California lawyer managed to inadvertently put herself in the spotlight and has become the latest sensation on the internet thanks to her legal expertise and genius in court.
According to E! News, shortly after the verdict was read, Mr Depp’s lawyers spoke out outside the courtroom.
She said: “Today’s verdict confirms what we have said from the outset that the allegations against Johnny Depp are defamatory and unsupported by any evidence… We are grateful to the jury for their careful deliberation, the judge and the court officials. who have devoted an enormous amount of time and resources to this case.”
During the trial, Vasquez fearlessly cross-examined Ms. Heard, and one of the highlights was when she asked the “Aquaman” actor if the $7 million divorce settlement amount had been donated by her to charity, as promised.
After Ms. Heard tried to avoid answering it directly by stating that she had pledged the money to various charities, Ms. Vasquez famously pointed out the deception by saying, “Mrs. Heard, with respect, that’s not my question.”
Although her efforts have put Ms. Heard in a difficult position, the internet cannot help but become obsessed with Ms. Vasquez. “I have to say I want Camille Vasquez as my lawyer if I ever get in trouble. She’s a boss. Her closing arguments are correct,” one user shared on Twitter.
Another wrote: “Camile Vasquez ate Amber Heard alive and didn’t even burp. CV you rock. #Camille Vasquez.”
A third tweet read: “Everyone agrees that Camille Vasquez should get her own cash prize from this trial because she’s been an absolute queen all along.”
“#Camille Vasquez is just so powerful and you can feel how much she cares and believes in and fights for Johnny,” another user tweeted.
Earlier in May, there was speculation that Vasquez was dating Depp, but according to Mashable India, she had responded by laughing away at the rumours.
US Weekly reports that Vasquez is a lawsuit partner for Brown Rudnick, the company Depp hired to oversee his legal defense in the defamation lawsuit.
Depp had sued Amber Heard for $50 million for defamation, alleging that a 2018 article she wrote for Washington Post had damaged his career. In the article, Ms Heard talked about surviving domestic violence but had not mentioned Mr Depp.
In 2020, Ms. Heard filed a $100 million counterclaim against her ex-husband, alleging that after she was granted a temporary restraining order, Mr Depp “unlawfully assaulted her” in an “ongoing harassment and online smear campaign.”
On Wednesday, June 2, the jury awarded Johnny Depp $15 million in damages.
Ms. Heard has also won part of her libel suit against Depp over articles in a private newspaper in which Depp’s former attorney described her allegations of domestic violence as cheating. The jury awarded her $2 million in damages.
Mr Depp and Ms Heard got married in 2015. However, the marriage was short-lived. They broke up in May 2016 and Heard accused the actor of sexual abuse. Depp denied the claims and they settled their divorce in August 2016.
