Wolverine star Hugh Jackman and his 27-year-old wife are separating, according to a statement from American media on Friday.
The Australian actor, 54, met fellow performer Deborra-Lee Jackman on the set of an Australian TV series in 1995, and the couple married a year later.
“We have been blessed to share a beautiful, loving marriage together as husband and wife for nearly (three) decades,” said a joint statement first reported by People magazine.
“Our journey is now changing and we have decided to part ways to pursue our individual growth.
“Our family is and will remain our top priority. We undertake this next chapter with gratitude, love and kindness.”
The couple has two children together.
Jackman, a Golden Globe winner for his role in “Les Miserables,” has combined his muscular superhero image with adventures in music and dance during a varied career.
“We greatly appreciate your understanding in respecting our privacy as our family navigates this transition throughout our lives,” the statement continued, adding that no further information will be released.
In a social media post to mark the couple’s silver wedding anniversary, Jackman described their wedding as “natural like breathing.”
“From the moment we met… I knew it was our destiny to be together. Over our 25 years, our love has only grown deeper.”
“I am forever grateful to share our love, our lives and our family together. We’re just getting started. Deb, I love you with all my heart!”
Jackman’s rippling muscles and cut-glass facial features have won him an army of admirers, and in 2008 he was named “Sexiest Man Alive” by People magazine.
