Washington:
Human Right Focus Pakistan condemned the murder of a Christian underage girl, who was abducted when she returned from hospital, and urged authorities to bring justice to the victim and her father, according to the HRFP statement.
The victim was identified as Gulnaz, who was abducted on December 25 while returning from the hospital with her father. Her father was also kidnapped. She went to the hospital after complaining of some pain in her abdomen.
Earlier, on January 1, the victim’s family informed the police that they had found the body on December 27, 2022 in the connected canal.
According to the statement, “Saiqa Hamid, sister of Gulnaz, asked relatives to find both. Shan Masih cousin of Gul Hamid started to find them both, but when he couldn’t find them from the hospital or on his way to the hospital, he registered he filed First Information Report (FIR) at a local police station under Section 365 PPC (Kidnapping).
“The HRFP team investigated the case, visited the family at their home, met the police, visited the hospital and inquired about the incident from several people around. As reported in FIR, both were kidnapped and after she attacked Gulnaz, she was killed. HRFP assured the victim’s family for legal support and other immediate assistance until Gul Hamid would be found and the perpetrators brought to justice,” the statement said.
HRFP president Naveed Walter said the abductions of Christian girls have not yet stopped or slowed down. The situation of the minorities remained the same as before. Gulnaz is a new case, but the form of targeted crime is the same as has happened several times with minority girls and their families.
Gul Hamid, her father, is still missing, he may be held by kidnappers or killed, and the family doubts him. Naveed Walter said that if this case is not solved by swift action by the government, the perpetrators could be emboldened for more of the same crimes with soft-targeting of minority girls, he added, according to the statement.
The year 2022 has been an alarming one for Pakistan’s religious minorities.
In September, members of the European Parliament’s Subcommittee on Human Rights (DROI) asked the Pakistani government to come forward with timely reforms and legislative amendments on human rights issues and translate them into concrete improvements, particularly preventing the abuse of blasphemy laws, reported The Express Grandstand.
Minority rights in Pakistan were a hot topic of discussion in 2022.
The year started with a Sri Lankan national being lynched and his body set on fire by a mob in Sialkot.
A month later, according to The Express Tribune, a man accused of burning pages of the Holy Quran was tortured and killed by a mob in Khanewal district of Punjab.
