Elon Musk took to Twitter on Tuesday to ask a question to his 118.2 million followers: “Wait if I tweet, does that count as work?” His tweet sparked several comments and reactions on the social media platform. While many tried to reason it out in the comments section, others were left confused.
One user wrote: “Many ‘journalists’ think it works when they do it… you have a much more reasonable claim here.”

Wait, if I tweet does that count as work?

Another user wrote, “Tweeting can be considered ‘work’, but only if you use your tweets to market something, build your platform, broadcast the news, or raise awareness about social issues; just Like other social media platforms, Twitter helps generate visibility and can be monetized in many ways.”
The third user wrote, “It’s kind of like playing games, am I working? It’s nice to get paid for what you love to do!”
Meanwhile, according to reports, Twitter employees will now have to send weekly updates of everything they’ve been working on.
Hundreds of Twitter employees resigned last week following Musk’s ultimatum to commit to “hardcore” work. Within a week of Musk’s acquisition, the company’s workforce had already been cut in half.
“New Twitter policy is freedom of speech, not freedom of speech. Negative/hate tweets are deboosted and demonetized to the max, so no ads or other revenue for Twitter. You won’t find the tweet unless you specifically look for it , which is no different from the rest of the internet,” he tweeted.
