Former Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan received a luxury tax return of PKR 14 lakh for his residence in Lahore from the Punjab provincial government on Monday, media reports said.
The challan issued by the Ministry of Excise and Taxation to the Pakistani chief of Tehreek-e-Insaf for the payment of Rs 14,40,000 for his Zaman Park residence, where he currently resides, should be paid no later than Monday when the final date to submit it was May 12th. Geo News reported that last month Imran Khan filed a record of the house wanted from him, the provincial tax collection authority said, and after estimate, a luxury tax challan was sent to the cricketer turned politician who received the notice.
According to the report, Imran Khan has been filing his tax regularly but will be given another notice as per the law if he fails to do so this time.
The PTI chief’s old house in Zaman Park was demolished and a new house, owned by him and his sisters, was built in its place, the report said.
Last month, the department issued a notice to the mother of the 70-year-old politician, the late Shaukat Khanum, to assess the luxury home tax, which instructed Imran Khan to settle arrears under the luxury tax of Rs 36 lakh.
The property is still in the name of Khanum, who died in 1985, the report said.
An excise officer, Adeel Amjid, rejected the element of political victimization and said the department decided to assess all luxury homes of two or more than two Kanals (approximately 1,012 square meters).
