An Indian researcher, who studies at Georgetown University in the US, was arrested by immigration officers and is confronted with deportation, according to his lawyer. Badar Khan Suri, a post -doctoral guy, was arrested on Monday evening by “masked agents” outside his house in Virginia, Politico reported.
The agents identified themselves as at the Ministry of Interior Security and told him that the government had withdrawn his visa, the lawsuit reportedly says.
Suri is accused of “spreading Hamas -Propaganda”. It is said that he has “connections with a known or suspected terrorist.”
“Suri was a foreign exchange at the University of Georgetown who actively distributed Hamas -Propaganda and promoted anti -Semitism on social media,” wrote Tricia McLaughlin, assistant secretary department of Homeland Security, on X.
“Suri has close ties with a well -known or suspected terrorist, who is a senior adviser to Hamas. On 15 March 2025, the State Secretary published a determination that the activities and presence of Suri in the United States made him deportable under Ina section 237 (A) (4) (C).”

Who is Badar Khan Suri
Dr. Badar Khan Suri is a postdoctoral fellow at the Alwaleed bin Talal Center for Muslim-Christian understanding at the Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service, Georgetown University, Washington, DC.
