A 52-year-old Indian man has been sentenced to 14 months in prison for sexually abusing a teenage girl from a well-known family.
For molesting a child under 14, an offender can be sentenced to up to five years in prison, a fine, flogging, or a combination of such punishments. The man cannot be flogged because he is over 50.
The man, whose name cannot be released because of a gag order to protect the girl's identity, has pleaded guilty to sexual assault, The Straits Times newspaper reported.
The 13-year-old girl trusted him enough to go for a motorbike ride with him one night in October 2022 when he abused her near a playground in Sembawang, northern Singapore, Deputy Public Prosecutor Suriya Prakash told the court.
