New York:
A 20-year-old Indian student is missing during vacation in the Dominican Republic and American federal law enforcement agencies, working with authorities in the Caribbean country to investigate its disappearance.
Sudiksha Konanki is a citizen of India and a permanent resident of the United States. A student at the University of Pittsburgh would be on holiday with five female university friends in a resort in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, said Sheriff's Office of Loudoun County in a statement Monday.
Konanki was missing on March 6. The Sheriff's Office of Loudoun County (LCSO) said that it continues to help and support the American federal law enforcement agencies that work together with the Dominican National Police and others to determine Konanki's place of residence and what happened to her.
Konanki, a resident of Loudoun County, Virginia, was missing during the holiday during a spring break in Punta Cana and was last seen in the early morning of 6 March.
“The current study includes a variety of search efforts, together with an overview of security video and telephone records. Interviews also continue with everyone who may have seen or has been Konanki before she was missing, “said the LCSO statement. It added that the LCSO applied for a yellow notification (worldwide police -alert for a missing person) to be published by Interpol.
A report in ABC News said that three Dominican officials involved in the investigation told the outlet: “The weekend is assumed that Konanki drowned in the ocean.” The LCSO warned against drawing non -supported conclusions, and said that there has been significant public speculation about what happened to Konanki and who might be involved.
“We warn that everyone does not draw any unent conclusions and are dedicated to ensure that a thorough investigation is carried out before conclusions are drawn,” said it.
The LCSO said it is hopeful for Konanki's safe return and “we are committed to supporting this research and her family in every possible way”.
The LCSO works closely with federal partners of the US Department of Foreign Affairs, FBI, DEA and Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) and the police of the University of Pittsburgh to support the current investigation by the Dominican National Police.
The report in ABC News quoted two police sources with knowledge of the research because they say that Konanki's clothing was discovered on a “portable beach bed close to the beach where she was missing”.
According to sources, the police have not found any proof of violence.
The ABC News Report said that Konanki and a group of people went to the beach after a nightclub in the night of March 5 to Thursday 6 March.
“A man was left with Konanki on the beach,” said a Dominican Republic for research policies.
“The man, whose name was not released, the police said that he and Konanki were going to swim and were caught by a big wave,” said the police report, “said the ABC News report.
The man is supposed to have told the police that when he came back to the beach, he crossed and went to sleep on a beach bed. “When he woke up, Konanki was nowhere to be seen,” said the report.
Sources have said that the man, who was seen in security video who came back to his hotel room at 9.55 am, “is not considered a suspect in the death of Konanki”.
Officials said that the friends of Konanki, who were with her around the time of her disappearance, were also questioned by the police and were not accused of crimes, according to the ABC News report. PTI YAS AS AS
